Misfit Rescue
We are a one-of-a-kind cat rescue based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our mission is to welcome unwanted cats off the streets for medical intervention, rehabilitation, and sanctuary.
We rescue cats who have never had a home, been abandoned, or somehow ended up living outdoors. Through close involvement with communities in and around us, we identify the cats who are suffering from illness, neglect, abuse, or need to be spayed or neutered. We intake cats with the goal of helping them for however long they need, whether that be a few days or a lifetime. Learn more about our work below.
Our work
Misfit Rescue provides refuge for undersocialized community cats while they receive medical care, allowing them time to recover safely indoors until they are well enough to go back to their communities or be eligible for adoption.
Medical Care
Basic health care is the starting point for every cat. Getting street cats sterilized and vaccinated may be all that is needed for the first phase of their life. Misfit Rescue is happy to trap, neuter, vaccinate, and return (TNVR) cats to their outdoor community. But that is not the end of our concern for their well-being. As street cats age they need additional medical care. Some have fur that gets incredibly matted, and they need help ridding themselves of those tight, painful knots. Others develop dental diseases and suffer with infected or broken teeth. Every cat needs proper dental treatment at least once in their lives. Still, others become injured and need medical treatment and a safe place to recover. These needs are real and if addressed, can lead to a dramatically improved life. We see these needs and work hard to get each cat the care they need to remain healthy throughout their lives.
Sanctuary
A safe place to thrive is the goal we have for all cats in our care. Not every street cat can be or should be returned to their outdoor community. When this is the case, we welcome them to stay with us in a cozy indoor cattery where our loving volunteers provide them with everything they need to be safe and healthy. Some cats stay for just a couple weeks while recovering from dental care, illness, or injury. For others, it’s their home for the remainder of their precious lives. We have dreams to expand our cattery in the future to provide sanctuary for more cats.
Adoption
For cats that are behaviorally suitable for adoption, we provide matchmaking. We take adoption and follow-up support seriously as we want to ensure successful placements with loving guardians. These cats have had tough beginnings, so we aim for happily ever-afters for them.
